Safeguarding Youth

Safe Scouting.  With so many rigorous and adventurous activities that Cub Scouts participate in, safety is a priority. Scouting America has developed an extensive safety program to create a safe and healthy environment for all youth.  At Pack 3807, our senior leaders have gone through an extensive training program to learn Scouting America’s practices, policies and guidelines on Scouting safely.   This includes first aid, emergency preparedness, and weather, among other items. For more information on the Scouting America’s extensive safety policies, see their Guide to Safe Scouting.

Leader Training.  In the 1980s, Scouting America developed and implemented an extensive training program to ensure that all Scouts are protected from abuse. The program was developed by Scouting America in conjunction with leaders in the fields of law enforcement and psychiatry.  The program has been constantly refined and enhanced over the past 30 plus years, and today covers all types of abuse, from sexual abuse to bullying to AI-generated harassment.  While developed by and for Scouting America, the Safeguarding Youth program is a gold-standard and is used by many other organizations as well.  Every single registered adult leader in Scouting is required to take and pass Safeguarding Youth Training.  Leaders are taught how to prevent abuse, how to recognize it, and how to respond and report it, both during Scouting and at home.  All registered leaders have also undergone a rigorous background screening by Scouting America prior to being registered.

Two-Deep Leadership.  Scouting America has created a “Two-Deep Leadership” policy as part of it’s ongoing commitment to youth protection. Two-Deep Leadership requires that there be at least two adults (and at least one of them a registered leader) at every meeting, outing or other Scouting event; that no Scout may be alone with an adult (unless that adult is the parent or guardian of that Scout); and all Scouts must always be in view of at least one adult at all times while Scouting.  Pack 3807 strictly adheres to these barriers to abuse, and has a zero-tolerance policy for violations.
